Attention is an investment.
You are being rewarded today for what you invested your attention in the past.
Ultimately, we are all seeking autonomy.
Autonomy is having the full control over your life. The freedom to create your own rules, restrictions and challenges to build your own dream life.
However there are things that reduce that on a daily basis.
It always comes back down to what you spend your attention on.
Spend enough time and attention on one thing and it will become a habit and that habit will keep repeating because you have no full control over your subconscious.
I was your average young lad.
✤ Scrolling 24/7
✤ Playing games
✤ Watching shows
While this lifestyle felt empty and meaningless, it taught me one thing.
A fulfilment comes from having control over your life.
Fast forward to now...
I don't do most of these, more importantly, I found my purpose.
Now I control how I spend my time and attention in most of days.
I would like to give you the simple method I use.
Delete distractions
By distractions I mean things that take your autonomy away, e.g.
⁍ Scrolling
⁍ Notifications
⁍ Wrong people
Delete them from your life and add them again when you want to, have full control.
When you wake up, you don't want to get distracted with notifications and scrolling, delete those social media apps.
But later in the evening you can re-download them.
When you have an evening off, and you want to work on your business, cut off people who are inviting you on meaningless invites.
However maybe once every month on a weekend, you can meet with them.
At the end of the day, as long as you have control, your life will be fulfilling.
This is the reason why we feel absolutely sh*t after we scroll, delve into the hole of notifications or when we say too many yes to unnecessary invites.
It feels like you are cheating yourself.
Have full control.
Replace it with Consumption
Since I deleted every social media apps in my phone, I have no option but to either
➢ Put the phone down
➢ Consume knowledge
When I am working and I grab my phone subconsciously, I end up putting it down again.
If I am not working and I grab my phone, I only see two apps, Gmail and Audible.
So I either end up reading newsletters or listen to audiobooks.
This what helped me finish one book in 2 weeks.
Currently finished listening to The Art of Impossible, a very great book, totally would recommend it.
But one more possibility is me not feeling like consuming, so I sit down with my own thoughts.
Best part?
I can find many answers to questions I have.
Being bored is a bless, not many are aware of that.
Relaxation
Time blocking relaxation is the ultimate autonomy.
It makes you feel in full control, feel rewarded and most importantly, you look forward to it.
I mostly time block to watch shows...
Now before you attack me, hear me out.
The reason I still watch shows is because I can draw some lessons and creativity from them.
My love for experimentation came as a result of a show I watched.
You an always draw applicable lessons from anything you consume.
With this you can have full control over your life.
That's all for today,
Talk soon,
